"You can play to earn gold or you can use money to buy gems. "If you want something, whether it's an in-game item or a micro-transaction, you ultimately have two ways to get it," explained O'Brien.

Gems are the purchasable currency used for micro-transactions, and gems can be traded for gold and vice versa. Karma is earned and cannot be traded - it's used to attain "unique rewards". Guild Wars 2's economy revolves around gold, karma and gems.

"But it's never OK for players to buy a game and not be able to enjoy what they paid for without additional purchases," stressed O'Brien, "and it's never OK for players who spend money to have an unfair advantage over players who spend time." They'll save-time and there will be account "services". Guild Wars 2 micro-transaction items will offer "visual distinction" and "expression". And when you pay for them, you help fund our support of Guild Wars 2 in a way that benefits all players of the game." You get a complete and playable game no matter what, but we think we can provide additional content and services that you'd be happy to pay for. "You, the customer, get to decide how much money you spend on the game after launch, based on how compelling it is to you. "We believe in micro-transactions because they fund ongoing development of the game in a very straightforward and open way," O'Brien added. Guild Wars 1 had micro-transactions as an "afterthought", wrote ArenaNet co-founder Mike O'Brien 2 - Guild Wars 2 has them at its foundations. That just about covers the Gw2 Auction House and what I found to be the one confusing thing where a lot of new players will have questions.Guild Wars 2 won't have a monthly subscription fee but will have micro-transactions, and developer ArenaNet has shared more information on how that will work. On the tab below this tab you will be able to withdrawal any money you have made from past transactions. While this is a pretty simple system to understand but since not many other games work the same way it will confuse a lot of people who are just starting out. This means that your item will take longer to sell but you will be getting more money from it when it does. What this option means is it will list your item up on the Auction House for the same price the lowest one is up for. Below that there is an option that says "Match lowest seller". If you want less money but want it instantly this is the way to go. The first option you see says "Meet highest buyer" This means that if you select this option the item will sell instantly to the person whom has their auction house set to buy items that are listed at this price. This can be a little bit confusing until you get used to the system. When you click an item on your list to the left you will get a few different options to your right. I had to shrink it down to get it to fit on this page so please click the picture if you're having trouble viewing it. A picture of this tab can be found below so I can explain each element about it better. Below this tab is the tab I would like to go over a brief bit, the "Sell on Trading Post" Tab. From here you can browse the Auction House for items you might be interested in buying as well as view the Top Valued, Top Supplied, Top Demanded and Top Traded items. This will show you the ingame store where you can buy items with "Gems" if you were to trade your gold for them, as seen on the second tab.īelow the Gems tab you can view the Trading Post Tab. To open the Black Lion Trading Company window (also known as the Auction House window in this game) press the "O" button on your keyboard. In this game you don't have to go to a specific location to list your auctions and it isn't as easy to understand as it is in most other games. The Auction House in Guild Wars 2 works a lot differently than it does in other games.
